Staff Evidence Analysis Forms and other Records Relating to Sigmund Rascher, 1946–1949

1946-1949

This series consists of over 80 Staff Evidence Analysis forms relating to documents mentioning Sigmund Rascher, a Schutzstaffel (SS) doctor, whose deadly experiments on humans, which were carried out in the Nazi concentration camp of Dachau, were judged inhumane and criminal during the Nuremberg Trials. The forms were prepared by the staff of the Subsequent Proceedings Division of the Office of the U.S. Chief of Counsel for the Prosecution of Axis Criminality during 1946 and by the staff of the Office of the Chief of Counsel for War Crimes during 1946 and 1947. Each form gives a document number; title and/or the general nature of the document; the date of the document; the source of the original copy of the documents; the persons, firms, or organizations mentioned in the document implicated in war crimes; subject heading filing instructions; and a summary of the document. Most of the documents identified on the forms were created during the 1942-1943 period and relate to war crimes involving medical experiments. Also included are a report prepared in June 1945 regarding Rascher documents, a December 1945 report regarding the deaths of Rascher and his wife, copies of original German-language documents, and translations of documents. This series was maintained by the Evidence Division and its predecessor.
